Self Defense for Women - Speaker Ted Smith from Oriental Health Methods

BIOGRAPHY:
Ted Smith studied 8 complete and distinct styles of Traditional Martial Arts since 1992. His training focused on how movements promote healing, increase Chi and connect the body, mind, and spirit.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT EASTERN EXERCISE? In 5000 years of East Asian civilization, health and fitness practitioners have employed the scientific method of observation, hypothesis, and repeatable results to find the fastest, safest, most effective ways to fitness and wellbeing. Generations have used these exercises as both preventative and curative medicine. They don’t use repetitive motion, avoiding potential injury and irritation while helping the ligaments and joints to gain their full range of motion, building strength and flexibility. One of the keys to health is circulation. Inflammation, atrophy and stiffness impede circulation in the body and can be caused by anything from diet, lack of exercise or improper exercise, stress or injury, to a chronic condition. The cumulative effect of practice improves circulation to allow the body’s own healing ability to address problems naturally without negative side effects. This is achieved by moving the body in a very specific way, causing muscle tissue to rub against internal pressure points, redirecting circulation to address chronic conditions or nagging injuries. The phrase “Body, Mind, Spirit” has different meanings for different people. One example of how to make those connections is by moving limbs in a non-linear fashion, in different directions simultaneously, helping the brain to make new neuromuscular connections to the body. This foundation of a solid Body, Mind, Spirit can help prevent dementia and Alzheimer's later in life. Prolonged practice develops mental and physical agility, increasing productivity while reducing stress. Any regular exercise can “recharge the batteries”. East Asian practices can increase your Chi (life, vitality, energy). Many practitioners have been able to remove stagnant Chi and its blockages, establishing a longer, healthier and more productive life. At Oriental Health Methods, the vast knowledge of East Asia’s ancient healing traditions, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Yoga, Bagua, Xing Yi, Wu Shu and more are seamlessly combined and tailored to any body type or condition, regardless of age.
